by Rich Leitch

2020 Mets Alum RHP Drew Howard and the University of Tampa Spartans have won the 2024 NCAA Division II National Championship.

The Spartans, the 2nd seed in the championships, staged a comeback win with six runs in the sixth inning to defeat Angelo State 8-3 and claim the title.

UT finished the season 52-8 as it won its ninth national championship, tying it with rival Florida Southern for the most national championships in NCAA Division II. The Spartans have now won six national titles in the 2000's, more than any other school at any NCAA level.

Howard was a member of the Mets from 2016-2020 and was a member of the 2020 Canadian Junior National Team.

After graduation he competed for NJCAA powerhouse Chipola College before transferring to Tampa in the fall of 2023.

Congrats to the Spartans, Drew and the Howard family.
