Cyclones Storm Florida: 11U Walk-Off Thriller Headlines Historic Sunshine State Debut
ORLANDO, FL – The Cyclones baseball program officially planted its flag in the Florida sand this past weekend, completing a high-stakes inaugural trip to the Sunshine State. Competing in the Spring Break Classic, the program’s four divisions showcased the results of a grueling winter training schedule, coming home with both Gold and Silver hardware headlined by a championship final for the ages.
11U Crowned Gold Champions
The 11U squad didn’t just win; they authored a comeback story that will be talked about all season. Facing off against CFL Pride Parker in the Championship game, Toronto Cyclones White proved that their "bend-but-don't-break" mentality is second to none, securing a 9-8 walk-off victory in a seven-inning marathon.
The game was a back-and-forth heavyweight bout. After trailing 1-0 early, the Cyclones surged to a 4-3 lead in the fourth, fueled by RBI hits from Cal M., Marcos B., and Angus H. When the Pride reclaimed the lead in the fifth, the Cyclones responded in the sixth with clutch hitting from Jason L. and James C. to knot the game at 7-7.
In the pressure-cooker of the seventh inning, the Cyclones' composure honed through months of training shone through. Despite falling behind by a run in the top half, the team forced the issue in the bottom of the seventh, ultimately inducing the game-winning error to seal the Gold Championship.
10U Claims Silver in Walk-Off Fashion
Not to be outdone in the drama department, the 10U team provided their own fireworks. After a 1-1 split in round-robin play placed them in the Silver Bracket, the team locked in for Sunday. In a mirror image of the 11U finale, the 10U boys battled through their championship game to secure a walk-off win, proving the program's depth and late-inning resilience.
12U and 13U: Elite Competition
The 12U team entered Sunday as a heavy favorite after a dominant 2-0 start in pool play, earning the #2 overall seed. While a series of unfortunate plays led to an early quarterfinal exit, their performance in the opening rounds established them as a force to be reckoned with. Meanwhile, the 13U team faced elite national talent, finishing the weekend 1-2 and gaining invaluable experience that will serve them well back home.
Forged in the Cold: The 2x Weekly Grind
While the Florida sun provided the backdrop, this success was actually forged during the Canadian winter. Since November, these athletes have been at the facility twice a week, clocking in hundreds of hours of reps while others were in the off-season.
"The physical and mental improvement we’ve seen since November is immense," noted the coaching staff. "To see that training translate into zero-error championship games and walk-off wins in Florida shows exactly why we put in the work."
Looking Ahead
The Cyclones won't have long to admire their trophies. The teams return to the lab this week for a final stretch of elite training before heading into their biggest test of the spring: the USA Tournament at the end of April.
