Mets Alumni Liam Hicks Named AFL Hitter of the Week

by Duncan Watt

Toronto Mets alumni Liam Hicks (2017) has been named the Arizona Fall League Hitter of the Week after posting a slash line of .917/.933./1.083.  Liam went an incredible 11-12 over the course of the week.

After notching the first 6 hit game in the Arizona Fall League in 14 years,  Liam followed up the next night, collecting three knocks in his first three plate appearances, giving him hits in nine straight at-bats. For context, just 13 MLB players since 1961 have collected hits in 10 straight at-bats, and the Mariners’ Julio Rodríguez is the most recent big leaguer to have a hit in nine straight at-bats, having done so this past August.

The Mets 2017 grad attended Mineral Area Junior College in Park Hills, MO. After two seasons at MAC he transferred to NCAA Division I Arkansas State, where he slashed a combined .340/.482/.571, he signed with the Rangers after being a 9th round selection in 2021.

Liam is one of two former Mets competing in the AFL along with LHP Mitch Bratt (2021).

Liam is the son of Bill and Jen Hicks.  His brother Connor (2019) is a Mets Alumni and is currently a senior catcher at Indiana State University in Terre Haute, IN.
