OPENING WEEKEND RECAP: TORONTO METS MAKE NOISE IN CPBL SEASON DEBUT

The Canadian Premier Baseball League (CPBL) officially returned this weekend, and the Toronto Mets made an immediate statement across Ontario. From historic pitching performances in Windsor to a home-run derby in Aurora, the organization displayed a mix of elite depth and "never-quit" resilience. With six of seven teams in action, the Mets combined for 12 wins and a staggering 15 home runs, setting a high bar for the 2026 season.

18u: Pure Dominance at St. Andrew’s College

The 18u squad opened their campaign with a masterclass in power hitting, finishing a perfect 2-0 against the Team Ontario Astros. The Mets outscored their opponents 24-1 over two games, led by a historic afternoon from Macnamara, who launched two home runs—including a massive grand slam—for five RBIs. Machado added two long balls of his own, while Kushnir and Lascelles each went deep to round out a six-homer Sunday. On the mound, Powell and Halcovitch spearheaded a pitching staff that allowed only one run and one hit across the entire doubleheader.

17u: High-Octane Series Split

The 17u team battled through a high-scoring 2-2 home-and-home series against the Ontario Nationals. The weekend started on a high note Saturday with a dominant 9-1 win behind a Parks gem and an Iriotakis home run. While they dropped the first two games of Sunday’s tripleheader action, the Mets’ bats woke up for a primetime slugfest in the finale. In a 16-10 victory, the Mets erased a late deficit with an eight-run sixth-inning explosion, featuring home runs from Stanley and Walker.

16u: Gritty Road Warriors

The 16u squad traveled to Windsor and returned with a strong 2-1-1 record against the Selects. After a tense 6-5 opening win where Hill drove in three, the team displayed their explosive potential in the series finale. The Mets dismantled the Selects 13-2, fueled by an eight-run seventh inning. Dahle was the standout on Sunday, racking up four RBIs with a home run and two doubles, while Sunohara-Thompson and Marshall also added home runs to cap off a successful road trip.

15u: High-Speed Offense

The 15u group showcased a relentless offensive identity in Windsor, finishing 2-1-1 while outscoring the Selects 34-23. The Mets were a nightmare on the basepaths, swiping 20 bases over the four-game set. Pandey provided the individual highlight of the weekend with a thrilling inside-the-park home run, while Doyle and Mowat anchored a lineup that drew an incredible 30 walks. Their 14-8 victory on Sunday morning featured a 13-run first inning, putting the league on notice regarding their scoring potential.

14u Majors: Pitching Perfection

The 14u Major team put on a clinic in Windsor, finishing a flawless 4-0. The weekend was defined by historic pitching: Lowe and Chung combined for a no-hitter on Saturday, and Young-Tenn followed it up on Sunday with four hitless innings and a rare immaculate inning—striking out the side on just nine pitches. Between the dominant arms and a three-run blast from Lowe, the 14u Majors outscored their opponents 34-5 in a statement sweep.

14u Minors: The Comeback Kids

The 14u Minor (McKiernan) squad faced a tough test against a strong Great Lake Canadians program, finishing 0-4 but showing the heart of the organization. After a difficult Saturday, the team staged a furious rally on Sunday, nearly erasing an 11-run deficit before falling 12-10. Hayle ignited the comeback with a three-run home run, and Dawson drove in three runs while striking out seven in a stellar relief appearance. Their refusal to back down highlighted a weekend of competitive baseball for the young squad.
